Ballpark charms...
Roxford Field is gracious and
unassuming - a sturdy, comfortable configuration that may be lacking in
glitz but not in functionality. It's a classic ballpark that offers a
pleasant atmosphere. However, one of the more unique occurrences in all
of baseball takes place in Roxford Field before and after the game. The
players have to walk through a public area, usually full of fans, to
reach the playing field from the club-house and return to the
club-house from the playing field. This is an old fashioned touch that
adds to Roxford Field's charm.
City notes...
(Market size: Average) -
is located
on the river and has been a prosperous town ever since its founding as
a trading post in 1788. Through the years, Roxford has attracted new
businesses and new groups of people including a substantial number of
European immigrants who have given the city a Euro flavor. Considering
its long history of commercial success, the city has invested time and
money on developing its cultural resources, a task to which it has
devoted itself with special care. The goal of this community has always
been to achieve excellence in city living. In fact, the citizens of
Roxford became known as 'Excelsiors' long before they bestowed the
nick-name upon their beloved pro baseball team.
Roxford is divided into several
neighborhoods, each with a distinct feel. Well-to-do
neighborhoods have great cafes and restaurants. In the midst of these
various neighborhoods, Roxford has built some common cultural
centers that are a source of pride for the whole city. Outdoor
activities abound in
this family-friendly city. Visitors to Roxford are encouraged to take
in the city's cultural resources, while appreciating the various
cultures that thrive within its boundaries.
Fan brief...
Excelsior fans are encouraged to be loud and
quirky. As noted above, Roxford Field was designed so that the
teams have to pass between the main grandstand and the rightfield stand
in order to enter the playing field. As the enemy walks through the
fans greet them with a loud chorus of boos and heckles. However, once
the game begins the hostility subsides and the fans are well behaved.
But, when the game ends the opposition is subjected to more
hostile treatment as they exit the field.
Interesting Fact: 'Excelsior' is a
latin word meaning excellent
or upwards. Thus an eagle with spread wings is featured in the club's logo.
