Busse Blasts Stars, Atlantics Take Game One, 4-3
The Boardwalk Atlantics started the Metro Series in style today,
winning on the road against the Delta Stars at Sportstime Ballpark by a
score of 4-3 to take an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series.
Atlantics right fielder Randy Busse excelled. He was 2 for 4 with a
home run and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 2.
Busse had a critical at-bat in the top of the seventh for Boardwalk,
coming through with a 2-run home run to put Boardwalk in front, 4-2.

Stars Win Wild One; Ties Series
The
Delta Stars nearly wasted a strong game from starter John Hewett, but
were saved by some timely hitting in a walk-off win over the Boardwalk
Atlantics today. Hewett threw 8.0 innings allowing 4 runs. The win allowed Delta to force a 1-1 tie in the best-of-7 Metro Series.
The game was decided
with one out in the bottom of the ninth. With Delta trailing 6-5, Chris
Nicks hit a cutter from Jonathan Bunce to center for a 2-run single.
Just like that, the Stars had a walk-off win.
The next game is set to be played Saturday as the series shifts to Boardwalk Grounds in Boardwalk.

GAME 3

Bradbury Blasts Atlantics, Stars Tame Game Three, 8-5
Riding the 3-hit
performance of left fielder Slippery Bradbury, the Delta Stars got a
road win against the Boardwalk Atlantics, 8-5, in Game 3 of the Metro
Series today. Bradbury went 3 for 4 with a home run, a double, and a
walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 4 for the Stars, who now lead the
best-of-7 series, 2 games to 1.
Game #4 is set to be played tomorrow back here at Boardwalk Grounds.

GAME 4

Stars Take Game Four In Extra - Seize 3-1 Series Lead
The Delta Stars
forced extra innings and went on to beat the Boardwalk Atlantics by a
final score of 2-1 today. Armand Field threw 9.0 innings of 8-hit ball.
Delta now leads Boardwalk 3-1 in the best-of-7 affair.
Rocky Parker, the 24-year old center fielder , had a direct impact on
the outcome. Parker contributed a run-scoring double in the top of the
tenth inning to put Delta up, 2-1.
The next game could prove the series clincher for the Stars and is set to be played tomorrow at Boardwalk Grounds again.

GAME 5

Boardwalk Wins Game Five, Deficit Now 3-2
Ernie McCants was
not about to watch an opponent celebrate a championship on his home
field. The right-hander pitched the Boardwalk Atlantics to victory at
Boardwalk Grounds today, staving off the Delta Stars, who remain one
game away from a title. McCants threw 8.0 innings of 6-hit ball. The
win cuts the series deficit for the Atlantics to 3-2 in the best-of-7
series.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the tenth inning, when
Boardwalk shortstop John Morton, facing Ted Graves, had a run-scoring
single. It gave the Atlantics the 3-2 win.
Game six is set to be played for Wednesday, as the series moves back to Delta at Sportstime Ballpark.

GAME 6

Metro Series to Stars
Joe
McCoy led the way with a 2 run homer in the 1st inning, giving the
Stars a 2-0 lead. The Stars road the momentum to a 3-1 victory. Delta won the series 4-2, capturing the Metros inaugural season title, first for the club.
In the jubilant clubhouse after
the decisive game, series MVP and right fielder Joe McCoy said the
Stars have "great fans and they deserve this."

Batting Champ Award
Tom
Thornton hit .410 in a colossal year at the plate, rapping out 91 hits,
17 doubles, 2 triples and 16 home runs. Baseball's latest member of the
elite .400 club, who led the ML in batting average with .410 in 1950,
also drove in 54 runs and scored 47.
Most Valuable Player Award
Oakdale's
Ellis Swaim put up some impressive numbers during the 1950 campaign to
seal his bid for MVP. The 27-year-old center fielder hit Metro Leagues
pitchers with first class efficiency as he piled up a .395 batting
average. He also included 98 hits, 23 doubles, 5 triples, 18 home runs
and 55 RBIs to round out the year in fine style. Steve Exum of the
Baytown Diamonds finished second in voting, while Tom Thornton of the
Oakdale Spiders finished third.
King Hurler Award
With
speculation about his retirement gaining steam last offseason, Stars
ace Armand Field had something to prove. He proved it in award-winning
style as he accepted the Metro Leagues King Hurler today. The veteran
Delta hurler posted a record of 15 wins and 4 losses this year with a
3.40 ERA. In 20 starts he struck out 140 and walked 46 in 164 innings.
Armand Chumley of the Roxford Excelsiors:team#6> finished second in
voting, while John Hewett of the Delta Stars finished third.
