It. Makos Are Champs!
The St. Cruze Makos made everyone believers as they
outlasted the Metropolis Monarchs for a 30-28 thrilling victory. The lead
changed six times in this incredible contest between these big city teams
and stayed competitive to the end. The first half saw both defences make
their stand with agressive, disruptive plays and heavy hits. Still, the Makos
managed to eek out a 13-0 lead by halftime. However, the second half exploded
with offense as the Monarchs threw for a 31 yard TD strike to score on their
first drive. They scored another TD in the 3rd quarter to take the
lead. The big plays continued in the 4th quarter as things seesawed
back and forth until the Monarchs took what could have been the final lead
when they scored on a hailmary TD with only 32 seconds left. Metropolis and
it's fans started to celebrate. But, the Makos were not to be denied as they
hit two quick and deep passes on their possession that put them in FG range.
Then, with only 13 seconds left they kicked the game winning FG. The Monarchs
and their fans were simply stunned as they ran out of response time. Probably
the biggest story of the game was the Makos QB. The Monarchs threw blitz
after blitz at him for 8 sacks. But, he just kept getting back up and making
great plays, including the two brilliant passes at the end of the game. His
unflappable performance resulted in his team winning it's first Metro Bowl
title. The Makos passed for 366 yards, 2 TDs and rushed for 123 yards and
1 TD. Next, they travel home to party in the streets with their fans in uptown
